Lyndhurst
Bowling Alley/Recreation Pavilion
Visitors Center
Tarrytown, NY
This country house, designed by Alexander Jackson Davis in 1839 and enlarged by him 30 years later, is considered the premier Gothic-Revival house in the United States. Also on its 67 acre property are a recreation pavilion, swim tank, greenhouse, cottages and service buildings. As a member of the Property Council, Stephen Tilly has served as consulting architect for thirty years. Campaigns have included: exterior stone conservation based on photogrammetric imaging, overhaul of mansion infrastructure including plumbing, electrical and climate control systems, fire suppression and security, conversion of carriage house into a hospitality venue, garage into a visitors center and exhibit space, stabilization of the green house, and restoration of the bowling alley and swim tank for public events.
Lyndhurst is a National Trust for Historic Preservation site.
